There's something strange in the neighborhood

We only have two types of temperature here in Melbourne (1) Fuck it's hot, and (2) Fuck it's cold.. there is also Fuck it's raining, but that is technically not a temperature. All of these states can exist on the same day too, and whilst I'm sure Melbourne is a really exciting object of study for weather-nerds (umm, their more formal term escapes me at the moment -apologies if you are one!), for everyone else Melbourne weather is a pain in the rear! Anyway, this morning it was definitely a #2 on the Melbourne temperature gauge, because my thermostat indicated it was only 15 degrees IN MY LIVING ROOM!!!  Checked to make sure I was not actually outside (I'm over 30 now, senility could set in at any minute!!) put the heating on full blast, and then went and hid under the doona with Moriarty*

So yeh, whilst under the doona I started to read The Haunting of Hill House, by Shirley Jackson. This is some seriously creepy stuff here. I also have a vague memory of watching the movie on TV when I was a little kid, and can only wonder what my parental unit was doing at the time. Not parenting that's for sure. I would only have been about ten, and was no doubt severely traumatised by the event. It's actually quite bizarre, because as I'm reading the story I'm getting flashes of (what I assume is) the movie in my head. It's running in black and white, which is actually a relief because that means it's the 1963 version and not the 1999 remake. I don't want Catherine Smugface-Jones making an appearance in my head anytime soon!

*Moriarty is the evil Siamese cat/rodent thing that lives in my house and drinks my tea, whilst plotting and scheming further ways to annoy me (as if sticking its stupid cat-head in my tea isn't annoying enough!).
